Pirates!

The graphics have obviously undergone a huge transition (click here to see the old Atari graphics), but while the essential gameplay aspects have remained the same, there have been key changes in the battlefield tactics and naval battles, while there are new sub-games in the form of dancing to impress the Governor's daughter and also a stealth section when you try to sneak into town (as opposed to the old dice-roll technique which made it impossible once you were notorious anyway!). A very good update, keeping true to the spirit of the original while updating and expanding it judiciously. The sword-fighting was more varied and challenging, too.
The Bard's Tale

This gives you an idea of the sort of graphics The Bard's Tale contains. And below is what it used to look like, years ago...

Though the location for the game and the title have remained the same, the gameplay is completely different - gone is the turn-based RPG and in its place a real-time action RPG with a very wicked sense of humour.
Defender of the Crown

Wow... they didn't makes damsels in distress like her when I was a lad!

The made them like this... hey leave her alone, not all women age well!
It's not only the graphics that have changed though, the whole gameplay mechanism has changed and there are different / improved sub-games too. I mean, in Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown, the jousting is actually possible to win! Inconceivable!!

Cinemaware have also now released a straight remake of Defender of the Crown, but after playing the demo I felt very disappointed so haven't bought it... if I have a change of heart, you're sure to see the review sometime!
