Spellforce: The Order of Dawn

Silly cover art aside, this looks like a very good game. Well it would have to be with all the hassle I've had so far trying to get it to work properly... first it wouldn't install (AVG and some other virus killers detect one of the files - presumably part of the copy protection - as a trojan), then I couldn't get the authorisationcode to go through for a while, now it's crashed on me when I'd completed the first level. Still, after patching adn running in XP mode, I'm hopeful that all my problems with this game will be a thing of the past!

It's a hybrid between an RPG and an RTS. Sort of take The Bard's Taleand mix it with Paraworld, brighten it up a bit and take out the wicked sense of humour from the first and the dinosaurs from the second, and you might have it.

Provided all works well after the patching etc, I'll be posting a full review fairly soon - though it depends how quickly the game gets more difficult!!

This is a JoWoods Production - after seeing the excellent job they did with Sam & Max, if this turns out to be as good as it promises to be, I think I'll be on the lookout for more of their games!

Thief: Deadly Shadows - first thoughts

Just started playing Thief: Deadly Shadows. It seemed like a stealth game with a lot of potential and a variety of methods of achieving your goals; however so far (admittedly after only a short time playing) it seems a little too touch - particularly in knowing where you actually are! (the map isn't a great help...) - and the interface so far feels a little fiddly. Also the AI isn't what it could be... on the tutorial level, firing a noisemaker arrow across the other side of the room has no effect whatsoever on the guard (or, indeed, the other two people in the room!) - indeed, firing a noisemaker arrow directly at the guard's head had no effect! - but tiptoing past noiselessy in deep shadow alerted the same guard to my presence.

Hmm... merits a further look, but at the moment I'm not sure about it...

Two more from my Top 100 Games List...

Obsession, a fantastic pinball game for the Atari STE, and International Karati + (might have been STE enhanced - can't remember!) - a great game and very funny. Memories below...

Ouch! You trod on my foot... no fair!

Oops... the one above is actually from International Karate - the first game - not IK+. Still I like the screenshot so I'm leaving it there... below is an IK+ screenshot!

The Obsession screenshot was meant to flip between images, but it doesn't... at least not on my PC. Maybe it's something to do with my browser settings... either way, it's something else to fix later!!

LEGO Star Wars - Screenshots

LEGO Star Wars made it onto my Top 100 due to its unique and superb two-player gameplay. Since then both LEGO Star Wars 2 and LEGO Indiana Jones have proved to be better games, but it's the first LEGO Star Wars game that started it all off. I haven't played LEGO Batman yet... but am looking forward to doing so!

LEGO Star Wars is #52 in my Top 100 Computer / Video Games of All Time. (Not numbered in order of preference, just numbered so I knew when I reached a hundred! :-D)
